Rome, Italy – October 2024 – Domenico Giordano and Davide Signorino, researchers at the National Institute of Metrological Research (INRiM) in Turin, have been honored with the prestigious 2023 Intellectual Property Award. Their groundbreaking invention, T.R.A.E. (Tecnologia Rilevamento Arco Elettrico), has earned them recognition in the category “The Energy of the Future.”
The T.R.A.E. technology, developed in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Turin during the EMPIR Project 16ENG04 MyRailS, significantly enhances the safety and sustainability of railway systems. It provides an effective solution for predictive maintenance by detecting electrical arcs between overhead contact lines and railway traction units. This innovation promises to improve operational safety and promote a more sustainable and efficient railway network.
The award ceremony occurred on October 30, 2024, at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. The 2023 Intellectual Property Award, organized by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, NETVAL, and Invitalia, celebrates the best Italian research patents across six technological fields.
